Dr. Lobo Gross Anatomy of the Brain Flashcards
what kind of tissue is corpus callosum
white matter
function of thalamus
all sensations before goring to the cortex ends here
if you destroy the hypothalamus what happens
no endocrine functions
are both ascending and descending fibers found in the brainstem
yes
the cerebral aqueduct connects which 2 ventricles
3rd and 4th
the cerebral cortex can be divided into how many lobes
4 frontal temporal pariteal occipital
what are 3 important sulci on the cerbral cortex
central sulcus
lateral sulcus
parieto - occipital sulcus
what is the motor area of the brain ..all voluntary movements EXCEPT LOWER LIMBS are controlled from here
the precentral gyrus
What happens if you damage the post central gyras
lose somatic sensation in lower limb
what does the sylvian fissure divide
the temporal lobes
what does the central sulcus divide
the frontal lobe from the parietal lobe
the post central gyrus is destroyed will you lose movement or sensation
sensation
which is area is destroyed if you are unable to perform any skillful movements
precentral sulcus
what is the function of the paracentral lobule
movement of the lower limb
what sulcus controls movement of the lower limb
paracentral lobule
which lobe: thinking planning and motor execution
frontal
which lobe : somatosensory perception
parietal
which lobe : auditory function
temporal
which lobe : vision
occipital
if you kill the cortex you can not….
move or feel
area 4 is
precentral gyrus (motor)
area 3,1,2 is
post central gyrus (sensory)
area 44 is
brocas area (speech production )
area 17 is
primary visual cortex
area 6 is
for skillful movements
the majority of the superolateral surface is done by what artery?
Middle cerebral artery
the majority of the medial surface of the brain is done by which artery
anterior cerebral artery
which artery supplies the majority of the inferior surface of the brain
posterior cerebral artery
if you block the middle cerebral artery can you walk ?
Yes!!! remember this will affect the motor cortex, however, it is only for the upper limbs. so you wil have face and arm hemiparesis, Broca’s aphasia , Wernicke aohaisa
if the anterior cerebellar artery is blocked can you shave?
yes!! this is because it is going to supply to areas of the brain responsible for lower limb movement! . So you would have contralateral lower extremity hemiplegia and or sensory defecits
if you block the posterior cerebral artery can you drive
since the posterior cerebral artery supplies the occipital lobe it will lead to homonymous hemianopia
What separates the motor cortex from the sensory cortex
central SULCUS
is the a central gyrus
NO!!!
