DOTD pt5 Flashcards
Drug Class: Ondansetron
Antiemetic
Drug Class: Apixaban
DOAC
Direct oral anticoagulant
Drug Class: Dalteparin
Low molecular weight heparin
Drug Class: Warfarin
Vitamin K antagonist
Indications: Ondansetron
post-op (anaesthetic waring off?) or post chemo nausea and vomitting
Indications: Apixaban
VTE, AF
Indications: Dalteparin
Thromboprophylaxis, VTE, acute coronary syndrome
Indications: Warfarin
VTE, AF (if not suitable for DOAC), heart valve replacement
Mechanism of action: Ondansetron
Serotonin antagonist, primarily centrally (inhibit CTZ), also in the gut where it reduces recretions and motility
Mechanism of action: Apixaban
Inhibit both free Xa and that bound with antithrombin III
Mechanism of action: Dalteparin
Enhance antithrombin III activity, inhibiting factor Xa
Mechanism of action: Warfarin
Inhibits activation of vitK dependent clotting factors
Adverse drug reactions: Ondansetron
Headache, GI upset, elevated liver enzymes, long QT syndrome
Adverse drug reactions: Apixaban
Bleeding, skin reactions
Adverse drug reactions: Dalteparin
Bruising, bleeding, heparin induced thrombocytopenia, hyperkalaemia (inhibits aldosterone release)
