DODT pt4 Flashcards
Drug Class: Fentanyl
Opioid
Drug Class: Salbutamol
SABA
Drug Class: Theophylline
Adenosine receptor antagonist
Drug Class: Metoclopramide
Antiemetic
Drug Class: Omeprazole
Proton pump inhibitor
Indications: Fentanyl
Analgesia, anaesthetic
Indications: Salbutamol
Acute exacerbations of asthma (or to prevent one e.g., before exercise) + for symptom relief through reversal of bronchoconstriction).
Indications: Theophylline
Chronic or poorly controlled asthma
Indications: Metoclopramide
post-op (anaesthetic waring off?) or post chemo nausea and vomitting
Indications: Omeprazole
GORD, peptic ulcers
Mechanism of action: Fentanyl
Opioid receptor agonist (strong)
Mechanism of action: Salbutamol
Beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist - this receptor allows bronchodilation
Short + Fast acting = good for acute exacerbations
Mechanism of action: Theophylline
Relaxes the smooth muscles located in the bronchial airways and pulmonary blood vessels.
Also reduces the airway responsiveness to histamine, adenosine, methacholine, and allergens
Mechanism of action: Metoclopramide
Central dopamine antagonist, peripheral cholinergic agonist
Mechanism of action: Omeprazole
Irreversibly inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase
