DOTD pt3 Flashcards
Drug Class: Semaglutide
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists (Incretin mimetics)
Drug Class: Flecainide
Class 1C antiarrhythmic agent - Na channel blocker
Drug Class: Aspirin
COX inhibitor
Drug Class: Celecoxib
NSAID
Drug Class: Azathioprine
Immunosuppressant
Indications: Semaglutide
T2DM, Weight loss
Indications: Flecainide
Supraventricular arrhythmia, premature ventricular contraction, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome
Indications: Aspirin
AF post stroke, secondary prevention of stroke, TIA and acute coronary syndromes, during acute coronary syndromes, co prescribed with other antiplatelets
Indications: Celecoxib
Oseoarthritis, RA, ankylosing spondylitis
Indications: Azathioprine
IBD, vasculitis, SLE
Mechanism of action: Semaglutide
Increases Glu dependent synthesis of insulin secretion from beta cells, activate GLP-1 R
Mechanism of action: Flecainide
Na channel blocker
Mechanism of action: Aspirin
Reduction of TXA2 synthesis via COX-1 inhibition
Mechanism of action: Celecoxib
Selective COX-2 inhibitor
Mechanism of action: Azathioprine
Anti-metabolite, decreases DNA and RNA synthesis
Adverse drug reactions: Semaglutide
GI upset, decreased appetite with weight loss
Adverse drug reactions: Flecainide
CNS - drowsiness, dizziness
GI - N&V
Flecainide flutter (increased ventricular response to supravent arrhythmia)
Pro-arrhythmia and sudden death with long term use
Adverse drug reactions: Aspirin
GI upset, GI bleeding, haemorrhage (stroke), hypersensitivity
Adverse drug reactions: Celecoxib
GI bleed, renal impairment, increased risk of MI
Adverse drug reactions: Azathioprine
Bone marrow suppression, infection, hepatitis
Contraindications, Warnings, DDIs: Semaglutide
Hypoglycaemic agents
Renal impairment
Contraindications, Warnings, DDIs: Flecainide
Other antiarrhythmics
Drugs that also prolong QT interval
Should be prescribed with beta blocker
Contraindications, Warnings, DDIs: Aspirin
Reye’s syndrome <16 years old, hypersensitivity, premature closure of ductus arteriosus in 3rd trimester, PPI protection required if long term
Caution when co-prescribed with other antiplatelets or anticoags (additive effects)
Contraindications, Warnings, DDIs: Celecoxib
Displace other bound drugs -> increased free drug conc e.g. warfarin, methotrexate
