Moet launched dom in 1936. First prestige cuvee. First vintage was 1921. first vintage of Cristal 1945. Launched as France was recovering from Great Depression and price of Champagne plummeting
Robert-Jean de Vogue
Moet’s marketing director decided to name it Dom. The name had been trademarked by Mercier (never used). Pierre Gabriel Chandon acquired Abbey of Hautvillers and its vineyards.
1943 vintage
first vintage of Dom fermented in its famous bottle. Previous vintages were transvasaged.
vineyards
originally made only from vineyards owned by abbey of Hautvillers. After acquisition of Lanson (and its vineyards) production increased. Now made from core group of vineyards in 8 grand cru villages and one premier cru village (Hautvillers). Same grape sources each vintage
