DOC201K USAF doctrine Flashcards
Identify seven tenets of air and space power.
- Centralized control/decentralized execution
- Flexibility and versatility
- Synergistic effects
- Persistence
- Concentration
- Priority
- Balance
Define counter air.
- Integrates offensive and defensive operations
- To attain and maintain a desired degree of air superiority
- Protection by neutralizing enemy aircraft and missiles, both before and after launch
Define strategic attack.
Offensive action specifically selected to achieve national strategic objectives.
- Attacks to weaken the adversary’s ability or will
- Systematic application of force against enemy systems and centers of gravity (COG)
Define counter land.
- Airpower operations against enemy land force capabilities
- Creates effects that achieve JFC objectives
Aim of counter land operations is to dominate the surface environment using air power.
Two types: AI and CAS
Define air interdiction.
Air operations conducted to
divert, disrupt, delay, destroy
enemy military surface capabilities before it can be brought to bear effectively against friendly forces.
Conducted at such distances from friendly forces that detailed integration is not required.
Define close air support.
Air action by manned or unmanned fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft against hostile targets that are in close proximity to friendly forces and that require detailed integration of each air mission with the fire and movement of those forces.
Define close proximity.
Close proximity does not represent a specific distance. Close is:
- Situational
- Requires detailed integration and terminal attack control based on friendly force proximity to enemy targets.
Define detailed integration.
- Level of coordination required to achieve desired effects while minimizing the risk of fratricide from either surface fires or air delivered weapons
- Procedures should be flexible enough and not overly restrictive
- Range at which the preponderance of effects against the enemy shifts from surface fires to airpower is the prime factor used to define the maximum range requiring detailed integration
Identify basic Air Force organizational elements.
- Headquarters, USAF
- Major Commands (MAJCOM)
- Numbered air forces
- Wings
- Groups
- Squadrons
