Do This Flashcards
What is Gametogenesis? males and females
Sex cells or gametes, created through the process of gametogenesis.
Males -> (sex organs are testes) spermatogenesis
Females -> (sex organs are ovaries)
oogenesis
What’s the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis
Mitosis is body cells, and create 2 identical diploid cells for growth and repair
Meiosis is sex cells, and create 4 genetically different haploid cells for reproduction
Explain how transcription happens in the nucleus of the cell
RNA polymerase unzips DNA and builds an mRNA strand using it as a guide. The mRNA then leaves the nucleus and goes to the cytoplasm for translation.
Explain how transcription happens in the cytoplasm of the cell
When mRNA is decoded by ribosomes to synthesize proteins
Metastasis
The movement of cancerous cells via the lymphatic or blood circulatory
systems to a location other than where they originate
Malignant
The wild cells or tumours grow into an area of the body where large blood vessels are present
Benign
When a tumour grows in one region of the body and does not move
to other parts of the body.
What 3 units make up a nucleic acid?
Phosphate, pentose sugar and a nitrogenous base
