What are the main cancer treatments you can have?
Surgery, Radiation Therapy, Targeted Therapy, and Chemotherapy
Surgery
Chosen when cancer is caught early on its development; however not all tumours can be surgically removed.
Radiation Therapy
The use of high energy radiation to destroy the cancer cells ability to reproduce.
-> gets rid of destroyed cells.
-> cancer patient may be treated with radiation alone
Targeted Therapy
Uses drugs to more precisely identify and then attack cancer cells, while leaving normal healthy cells intact.
Chemotherapy
The most common form of cancer treatment, which is a systematic therapy that affects the whole body by going through the bloodstream.
