When does a DNACPR come into place?
when a patient goes into cardiac arrest (their heart stops)
Why make DNACPR decisions?
avoid CPR in patients who wouldn’t benefit
legal default is to do CPR

20% (for those who CPR was felt appropriate - doesn’t take into account DNACPR decisions or very frail when senior dr stops CPR)
Who can make the decision to stop CPR?
senior registrar or consultant
Can you tell a patient’s family about their DNACPR decision?
only with the patient’s consent
if patient does not consent for you to tell family, you cannot do so
What aspects of care does DNACPR refer to?
only CPR
does not impact any other care
If you are in doubt if there is a DNACPR and a patient arrests, what should you do?
start CPR
