DNA and Gene Expression Flashcards
Three components of DNA:
Sugar! Phosphate! Nitrogen! SNP- SNAP!
Name the purines, then pyrimidines
CUT the pie, AG=purines
Is there and S phase between M1 and M2 in Meiosis?
ONE round of DNA synthesis and TWO nuclear division steps (reduction divison and final divison)
How is the DNA backbone held together? (what does the bond look like)
By covalent bonds, formed between the 3’ carbon of one sugar, and the 5’ carbon of the next. They are linked by a phosphate.
General vs specific transcription factors
General are necessary for transcription of most genes, specific are
General vs specific transcription factors
General are necessary for transcription of most genes, specific are for specific genes at specific times. heavily involved in gene expression
Sanfilipo Syndrome
NAGLU gene mutation, results in heparin sulfate not being degraded. Sub arginine for glycine at amino acid 70.
Sanfilipo Syndrome
NAGLU gene mutation, results in heparin sulfate not being degraded. Sub arginine for glycine at amino acid 70.
osteogenesis imperfecta
Caused by a mutation in the type one collagen gene, which causes excessive post translational modification of the procollagen molecule.
Werner Syndrome
Caused by the WRN gene. Causes premature aging due to faulty helicase
