What is team working?
Co-operation effort by a group of people to achieve a common goal.
Why is team working important?
- Shared workload.
- Improved productivity.
- Speeds up the delivery of solutions.
- Utilises different skill sets.
Can you give me some theories of teamworking?
The Tuckman Team Model.
It describes four stages that teams may progress through: forming, storming, norming, and performing (a 5th stage was added later: adjourning) = Feedback
What is Belbin?
Developed in 1981 to support team building.
Looks at 9 different roles, with different traits relating to thinking, action and management of people.
Shaper, Implementer, Completer, Coordinator, Team Worker, Resource Investigator, Plant, Monitor Evaluator, Specialist.
How do you promote diversity and inclusion in your teams?
Promote pay equity.
Acknowledge holidays of all cultures.
Mix up your teams.
Be aware of unconscious bias.
What is team dynamics?
Behavioural relationships of members of a group.
1. How they interact.
2. How they communicate.
3. How they cooperate with each other.
How can you improve team Dynamics?
Know your team and understand what motivates them.
Tackle problems quickly.
Define Roles and responsibilities.
Clear communication.
Empowerment.
What are the benefits of teamworking?
The benefits of teamworking are that they enable problem solving, there is a potential for innovation, it improves motivation, and you can utilise different skillsets.
How can diversity aid teamwork?
Diversity can aid teamwork as it introduces people to new cultures, new ways of working and also differing skillsets.
How would you go about selecting the right people to join your team?
I would identify the project requirements, skills and experience required.
I would then review the characteristics of each team member to identify who has the necessary skills and experience to undertake the work.
What could you do to help a team member with certain weaknesses?
Provide encouragement and motivation.
Draw up a plan to strengthen their weaknesses and provide support and feedback where required.
How would you deliver a difficult message to members of your team?
Firstly, I would prepare and plan what I wanted to say. I would identify the desired outcome of the conversation.
I will focus on the delivery of the message and ensure that it is delivered in a calm, constructive and empathetic manner.
I would ensure that I follow it up and query whether anyone has any questions that need addressing.
What would you be classed as under Belbin teamworking?
I would be a shaper as I think I am dynamic, and I am fairly confident under pressure.
What is your company’s diversity and inclusion policy?
It looks at promoting, championing, and encouraging diversity and inclusion, as well as equality at RLB.
Aims to measure key areas of performance, such as gender pay report.
What is unconscious bias?
The associations we hold outside out conscious awareness that affect our judgement in a situation.
