How does your company accommodate inclusion and diversity?
- My company has an “equal opportunities” policy
- This sets out that all employees will be given equality of opportunity; all will be given equal access to resources
Why is diversity and inclusion important in the workplace?
- It creates and equal state free from discrimination
- Businesses can benefit from diversity as it results in an increase in innovation
What is unconcious bias?
When people make quick judgements of others based on a characteristic without realising.
What legislation are you aware of that would impact on diversity and inclusion?
The Equality Act 2010
- It states that it is unlawful to discriminate against someone on the grounds of certain characteristics:
1. Gender
2. Race
3. Religion
4. Disability
5. Age
Are you aware of how the new RICS rules of conduct deal with diversity and inclusion?
Rule no. 4 - “Members and firms must treat others with respect and encourage diversity and inclusion”
How can you define “teamworking”?
A co-operative effort by a group of people to achieve a common goal.
How would you select a successful team?
- Understand the task at hand and who has the skills and experience required.
- “Teams should be balanced with appropriate levels of expertise and complimentary skills required to create a diverse team of experts”
Why is teamwork critical to construction projects?
- Construction projects are complex, and comprise of teams built up by several different members with specialist expertise.
- It is vital to bring members together to ensure the common goal is met.
How can the communication process within a team impact on the team’s success?
Effective communication is critical to the success of the project;
- Leads to efficiency, i.e. quicker decisions being made
- More accuracy from communicating previous lessons learnt/past experience
