Define national migration?
The movement of population within a country
Define the term natural change?
The outcome of the balance between births and deaths in a population. Natural increase occurs when births exceed deaths. Natural decrease occurs when deaths exceed births.
Define the term ethnicity?
The cultural heritage shared by a group of people that sets them apart from others. This includes racial ancestry, a sense of history, language, religion and form of dress.
Define sense of place?
An overarching impression encompassing general ways in which people feel about a place.
Define social isolation?
A complete or nearly complete lack of contact with people and society.
Define counter-urbanisation?
The movement of people and employment from major cities to smaller settlements and rural places located beyond the city, or to more distant, smaller cities or towns.
Define suburbanisation?
The outward spread of the built-up area, often at lower densities compared with older of a town or city. The decentralisation is encouraged by transport improvements.
Define assimilation?
the process by which people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds come to interact and intermix, free of constraints in the life of the larger community or nation.
Define social housing?
Provides accommodation at affordable rents to people on low incomes.
Define perception?
An individual’s or groups “picture” of reality resulting from the assessment of information received.
Define demographic?
Means population or some aspect of it such as its size, rate of change, density and composition
Define ethnic segregation?
The voluntary or enforced separation of people of different cultures or nationalities
Define gentrification?
A change in social status, where former working class inner city areas are increasingly occupied and renewed by the middle classes.
Define low income households?
Those earning 60% or less of median household income, after housing costs have been deducted.
Define culture?
The ideas, beliefs, customs and social behaviour of a group or society.
