Diuretics Flashcards
How do carbonic anhydrase inhibitors work? Name an example
They act on the proximal convoluted tubule and inhibit the reabsorption of bicarbonate –> alkaline diuresis.
Example is acetazolamide
How do loop diuretics work? Name an example
Work on the ascending limb of the loop of Henle to inhibit reabsorption of sodium, chloride and potassium. Furosemide and bumetanide are examples
How do thiazide diuretics work? Name an example
Work on the distal convoluted tubule to inhibit reabsorption of sodium and chloride. Example is Bendroflumethiazide
How do aldosterone antagonists work? Name an example
Work on the collecting duct to inhibit reabsorption of sodium and inhibit secretion of potassium. Example is spironolactone
