Confusion, urea >7, respiratory rate>30, blood pressure <90 systolic, age >65

Oral amoxicillin (doxycycline if penicillin allergic) for 5 days

IV co-amoxiclav (IV levofloxacin if penicillin allergic) + oral doxycycline for 5 days

Oral amoxicillin (oral doxycycline if penicillin allergic) for 5 days
How do you treat severe HAP?
IV amoxicillin (IV co-trimoxazole if penicillin allergic) + IV gentamicin for 7 days

Oral doxycycline

How do you treat bacterial meningitis?
IV ceftriaxone + IV dexamethasone (benzylpenicillin in community)
How do you treat viral encephalitis?
IV acyclovir
How do you treat meningitis in a patient >60 or immunocompromised?
Add IV amoxicillin to IV ceftriaxone + IV dexamethasone
How do you treat epiglottitis?
IV ceftriaxone
How do you treat subacute endocarditis?
IV amoxicillin + IV gentamicin

IV flucloxacillin
How do you treat prosthetic valve endocarditis?
IV vancomycin + IV gentamicin

Oral metronidazole for 10 days
