How is the contour of a frame checked (4)?
Visual inspection from the front, above, below, and the side.
In all cases, the lenses should be aligned.
What is X-ing?
The lenses, if skewed and viewed from the side, will form an X if one lens is tilted more anteriorly/posteriorly than the other.
What should the temple arm angles ideally be?
Slightly wider than parallel
How should the temple arms appear when the frame is viewed from the side?
They should both be aligned
Describe the four-point touch.
Both temple ends and the eye wire should all be touching a flat surface when placed down.
What are four common patient complaints about frame fitting?
Sore behind one ear
Sore on one side of the nose
Frame slipping but tight

Describe face wrap.
Ensuring the frame follows the line of the face
Describe splay and frontal angles for frames.
Splay - angle formed between the bridge of the frame when viewed from above
Frontal - angle of the bridge of the frame when viewed from in front
What is the correct length to bend for the temple arms?
2mm past the bend
Where does a properly positioned temple bend fall on the ear?
Just behind the top of the ear
What is the most sensitive area of the ear when folded forward?
The mastoid region
What are the pliers for temple manipulation?
Nylon jaw pliers
