What are the 4 things prisoner’s are expected to do in order to access higher levels of IEP?
- Behave well and help other prisoners and staff
- Demonstrate a commitment towards their rehabilitation
- Engage in purposeful activity e.g work or education, attend services
- Reduce their risk of reoffending
What are the 4 levels of IEP?
Entry- All new prisoners come in at entry level. Can move to basic or standard
Basic- For prisoners who have demonstrated insufficient commitment to their rehabilitation, behaved badly or not engaged with the regime. They receive minimum entitlement
Standard- For prisoners who are meeting rehabilitation expectations, behaving well and participating in the regime
Enhanced- For prisoners who fully committed to their rehabilitation, meeting behaviour criteria, complying with the regime, and seeking to reduce their risk of reoffending
Which prisoners may wear their own clothes?
In the male estate- Standard and enhanced
In the female estate- Everyone
All unconvicted prisoners
Which prisoners are entitled to a TV?
All prisoners except basic
Which prisoners are entitled to higher levels of pay?
Standard and enhanced
What is the form used for taking property off a prisoner if they’ve moved down an IEP level?
F2056D (property in possession) pink form
What is Prison Rule 51/YOI 55?
Sets out offences against discipline
Gives the authority to charge prisoners who commit offences through the adjudication system
What are the DIS 1 and DIS 2 forms?
DIS 1: Outlines what a prisoner who has been put on report has done wrong
Must be given within 48 hours after the alleged offence
DIS 2: Outlines the adjudication procedure
What are possible outcomes of an adjudication?
Withdrawal of privileges
Time in segregation
Days added to sentence
What considerations should be made before choosing to pursue an adjudication?
Question the seriousness of the offence
Consider whether alternative discipline approaches may be more effective
Talk to a manager before doing so
It’s a time intensive process and can lead to serious consequences
Who can a prisoner complain to if they are dissatisfied?
How soon after the matter arises must this be done?
Three stages:
- Initial complaints to prison officers
- If prisoner is dissatisfied can escalate to a manager
- Can then escalate to the governor
Must submit complain within three months of the matter coming to their attention
