Dipoles Flashcards
Dipoles in a molecules occurs when
(AMC)
Opposite ends of atoms, molecules or compounds have different electrical charges
When do induced dipoles occur
When one molecules with a PD or TD repels another molecules electrons
Temporary dipoles are created when?
Electrons which are in constant movement the nucleus, spontaneously come into close proximity. This uneven distribution of of electrons can make one side of the atom more negatively charged then the other
This can also be known as instantaneous dipole
PDPDA
Type of VDWF occurs when PD are present in molecules
PD occurs when 2 atoms in a molecule have different e.n values
1 atoms attracts e more then the other becoming negative while the other becomes positive
