What is the time signature of a waltz and how is it accented?
3/4 timing with first beat accented
What is the recommended tempo of waltz?
30-32 mpm
What are the main characteristics of waltz?
sway and rise and fall
Describe sway
an inclination of the body normally made into the center of a turn or away from the moving leg
Purposes/ uses for sway
maintaining balance, control ,initiating a movement, increasing the speed of a movement or improving the aesthetics of a figure
What does Rise & Fall mean?
the change of height produced by the dancer during the execution fo the steps and figures
What parts of the body are used during rise & fall?
3 parts
-toes
-foot
-body
What does “No Foot Rise” mean?
means there is elevation felt int he body and legs while the heel stays in contact with the floor
On which type of step does No Foot rise to occur?
at the end of a backward step on the inside of most turns
-where there is a rise or commencement of a rise at the end of each step
What do the words “Commence to Rise” mean?
indicates later rising in the feet
Demonstrate the five basic foot positions.
1st- feet together parallel
2nd- feet apart to the side
3rd- heel of one step to the instep of the other
4th- one foot either forward
5th- one foot loosely crossed behind the other with toe turned out
