it allows the change to appear in your playlist. if its not engaged is will only appear in clips list.

what is zero crossing? why is it important to consider zero crossing when editing?
the point where the mathematic sign changes from positive to negative, represented by crossing off the axis. if you cut off in a place that wasn’t meeting zero crossing then you’ll get a pop
how is a playlist different from a track?
a playlist exists within a track. you can have multiple playlists.
im about to make a ton of edits to this clip, but id like to be able to quick return to the original of this clip incase I don’t like my edits. how can I use playlists to make this easy?
it allows you to have a copy of the original and then many other playlists and takes to work with,
what is the advantage of using playlists while recording?
you can easy do multiple takes.
how do I change it so I can see all playlist on the same track at one time?
you can go to playlist view and see all takes.
how do you loop playback and how do you select the part it will loop?
you can pull out the blue arrow and drag it to the part you’d want to hear on loop. then you right click on the playlist and select loop.
how does cross fading work?
it smooths it over so that the transitions sounds cleaner.
what do the numbers in the parentheses beside the playlists mean?
its the number of the playlists made. so if its (5) then its the fifth playlist made.
what is a “comp track”
you’re making a full track from several different takes. you’re compiling it all together.
after comping a track together, what is the best way to even out the overall levels of the different clips?
increase the gain from the tool in the lower left of track
what are the four basic types of audio signals?
mic, line, speaker, and instrument.
what precaution should you take when plugging in a line level signal into an audio interface?
make sure it is not expecting an instrument or mic level signal or else it will apply the pre amp which is already at line level.
what is the purpose of a “pad” switch on an audio interface?
it helps reduce the signal before it reaches the pre amp in order to keep loud noises from overriding.
what is the purpose of the “+48v” switch on an audio interface, and what are the accompanying precautions?
it allows you to engage phantom power. if not set up correctly for the specific mic type it can damage your work and material. you need to know if your mic needs it or not.
