what is the difference between attributes and globals in the create dialogue?
globals are defaults that apply to all groups. attributes can be assigned to certain groups so behavior is different from normal global group
What do the dot and hollow dot icons indicate in the Group list?
If a group has a dot next to it, that means all tracks in that group are selected. If a hollow dot appears, that means some, but not all, of the tracks in the group are currently selected
What does clicking the “keyboard focus” A-Z icon next to the Groups list enable you
to do?
Use key focus commands for groups, activating/deactivating each by hitting the
corresponding letter on the keyboard
Where is the Group ID indicator located, and what does it tell you?
Above the fader on each track. Tells you if that particular track is currently in an
active group
How can you move a fader independently from an active group?
Hold down control
How do you delete a group?
Select the group you want to delete and then select “delete active groups” from the
Group pull-down menu.
What are busses used for in Pro Tools?
routing signals from one place to another
Under Setup/IO/Bus, what does it mean if a bus is bolded?
it means that bus is currently being used
Explain how to route a track to a submix. Explain how to set the input and output
selectors
Set the output of the track to an unused bus, and set the input of the submix aux
track to the same bus
Describe the fast way to set up a submix.
Hold down shift to select range of tracks, then hold down SHIFT+OPTION while
setting output on first track to “new track.” Use the default setting for a stereo aux track,
and name your submix.
Explain how solo-safing is helpful when routing tracks to a submix, and explain
how to set it up.
Solo-safe the aux submix track by command+clicking on the solo button on the aux
track
What is a “2MIX” fader, and how do you set one up?
it can be used as a master volume fader for any tracks routed to it; gives us more
options later. Route your tracks or submixes to the 2MIX
How can you solo out your submixes if you have them routed to a 2MIX fader
Solo-safe the 2MIX aux track, plus solo-safe all of the individual tracks feeding the
submixes. Make sure the submixes are un-solo-safed.
