Large scale theories that attempt to explain the totality of human experience.
Participatory culture
the way media consumers are able to annotate, comment on, remix, and talk back to culture.

modernism
artistic movement of 19th century. questioned traditional forms of art and culture.

provides the community with information of companies and businesses while e holding officials to high standards

works not covered by intellectual property law or if copyright has expired are public property.

aspect of copyright law. specifies ways in which someone can use a work
propaganda
communication that attempt to persuade an audience.
depth interview
research method where researchers conduct lengthy interviews with test subjects
tastemaker
people who shape the way others think, eat, and behave (etc)
Gate keeper
decides what stories are considered news worthy. promote social values
obscenity
indecency that goes against public morals. corrupting influence. not supported by 1st amendment
crowd sourcing
taking tasks that were originally performed individually and giving them to a group

media literacy
skill of being able to decode and process the messages and symbols transmitted by media. ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and communicate.
media convergence
previously distinct technologies come to share content, tasks, and resources
