Digestion Flashcards
What three things make up the mucosa
Simple columnar epithelium, layer of connective tissue called lamina propria, thin layer of smooth muscle called muscularis mucosae
Name the layers of the G.I. tract from inside out
Mucosa, submucosa, muscularis, serosa
Name the four sections of the stomach
Cardia fundus body and pylorus
What secretes HCl, Pepsinogen. How is Pepsin formed. What is needed for absorption of vitamin B12 in the intestine
Parietal cells secrete HCl, chief cells secrete Pepsinogen. HCl converts pepsinogen into Papson. Intrinsic factor is needed for absorption of vitamin B12
Three divisions of small intestine
Duodenum jejunum and ilium
Describe the microvilli of the small intestine and its function
Increase surface area and secrete brush border enzymes
Describe the four sections of the large intestine
Cecum colon rectum and anal canal
What are the large intestines main functions
Transport, storage, water absorption
What does bile consist of
Pigment called Bilirubin , bile salts, cholesterol, and other molecules
How does the liver detoxify the blood
Excreting substances in the bike, By phagocytosis, and by chemical inactivation
How does the gallbladder release bio
Through the cystic duct and common bile duct to the duodenum
What are the endocrine portions of the pancreas known as
Is lots of Langerhans
The three phases of gastric function
Cephalic, gastric, intestinal
Describe what happens in the intestinal phase
Activity of the stomach is inhibited by neural reflexes and hormonal secretions from the duodenum
What stimulates secretion of secretin
Arrival of acetic chyme in the duodenum
