Difficulties obtaining info on universe Flashcards
What is the biggest problem in gathering radiation from space to study universe?
air
What does the earth’s atmosphere do to make it difficult?
interferes with light rays, completely blocks many EM radiation so they cannot be studied from the surface
Twinkling starlight reason?
due to light rays being jiggled and deflected as they come though the shifting atmosphere.
What does twinkling starlight effect?
For astronomers, limits the clarity and accuracy of their measurements and observations
How do they avoid the problem of earths atmosphere interference?
Optical telescopes built on top of high mountains, putting them above the most unstable and densest part of atmosphere so they get a clearer view.
Why use satellite astronomy?
EM radiations completely blocked by the atmosphere
What cant you use to study useful astronomy on ground level?
infrared, X-ray, gamma and arts of microwave and UV spectrum.
What is the solution for the block of EM radiation?
Modern astronomy done from satellites, only solution for some type of observations
