Differentiation Flashcards
what is differentiation?
the process by which a cell becomes specialised for a function and cannot change into different types of cell
what is a specialised cell?
a cell whose structure is adapted to allow them to carry out a particular function
what is the function and structure of a muscle cell?
contract and help movement and have mitochondria as they help with respiration which is required for movement
what is the function and structure of an epithelial cell?
tail projections called cilia to move dust/ mucus
what is the function and structure of a palisade cell?
lots of chloroplasts and elongated to trap light for photosynthesis
what is the function and structure of a root hair cell?
long extension and no chloroplasts to absorb water and they’re underground to have no light and the length increases surface area
what is the function and structure of red blood cells?
no nucleus and contains haemoglobin to carry oxygen and have no nucleus to leave a space for oxygen
what is the function and structure of a nerve cell?
long extension called dendrites used to transport messages around the body and the extensions are used to connect to other nerve cells
