Differentiate between muscles Flashcards
Differentiate between the ligaments of the hip
The iliofemoral and pubofemoral ligaments are anterior whereas the ischiofemoral ligament is posterior.
All three limit hip extension.
But the iliofemoral arises from the anterior superior iliac spine superiorly and inserts to the intertrochanteric line of the femur, the pubofemoral superiorly attaches to the superior pubis ramus and insserts into the trochanteric fossa and the ischiofemoral arises from the ischium and inserts into the greater trochanter.
The iliofemoral and pubofemoral limit lateral rotation and abduction whereas the ischiofemoral limits medial rotation and adduction.
Differentiate between the rectus femoris and vastus lateralis
The rectus femoris extends the leg at the knee joint and flexes the thigh at the hip joint whereas the vastus lateralis is only a knee flexor.
Differentiate between the biceps femoris and semimembranosus
The biceps femoris flexes the leg at the knee joint, extends the thigh at the hip joint and laterally rotates the leg whereas the semimembranosus flexes the leg at the knee joint, extends the thigh at the hip joint and medially rotates the leg.
Differentiate between the biceps brachii and the brachialis
The brachialis is an elbow flexor whereas the biceps brachii is primarily a supinator of the forearm as well as an elbow flexor.
