Rectus abdominis
In sitting position, ask patient to resist you pushing their shoulders towards the plinth
Transverse Abdominis
Patient lying in a hook lying position, find the ASIS, and move two inches toward the midline then one inch inferior apply light pressure. When the muscle is contracted you will feel muscle tension popping under your finger
Internal and external abdominal oblique
In sitting position, with patient rotated towards one side, ask patient to resist you pushing their shoulders the opposite way
quadratus lumborum
patient prone. Ask patient to grab sides of plinth, and hip hitch on one side. Put hands on lower leg and lean back with body weight to see if the muscle holds in that position
Erector spinae
patient prone, ask them to lift their head and shoulders off the plinth.
