A chronic rheumatoid disorder in which the the intervertebral disk, thoracic zygapophyseal joints, costovertebral joints and manubriosternal joint become ossified
Ankylosing spondylitis is found in what types of patients?
More commonly in males from the ages of 15 to 40
What are the clinical signs of ankylosing spondylitis?
- night pain
- pain that decreases with activity or exercise
- inflammation
swelling, - joint fusion over time
What is vascular claudication?
A type of leg pain caused by narrowing of the blood vessels (atherosclerosis) in the legs
What increases symptoms in vascular claudication?
cycling and walking due to the increased demand for blood supply
What increases symptoms in neurogenic claudication?
Walking, but not cycling
What are the characteristics of hypothyroidism?
- weakness
- fatigue
- arthralgias
- myalgias
- muscle cramps
- cold intolerance
- constipation
- lethargy
