- A balance diet supplies the human body necessary energy and nutrients in the correct proportions for the healthy growth and maintenance of body. = Allows individuals to perform daily tasks efficiently.

explain concept of energy balance. (4)
A
- Energy balance is the relationship of the input and output of energy form the body.
- Energy input = energy intake. Is the amount of energy a person derive from their diet. Carbs, Fats and Proteins contributes to the energy for the body.
- Energy output = energy expenditure. Is the amount of energy a person uses for nasal metabolism.
- Energy balance affects weight. If input=output, weight unchanged. so on..

Factors to consider when planning meals. (5)

- Nutritional needs: school children, teens, adults, elderly.
- Physiological: age, gender, metabolic rate, level of physical activity, health status.
- Psychological: individual preferences (vegetarians: lacto, lacto-ovo, ovo and vegan)
- Social: occasions, ethnic customs and traditions, religion, influence
- Economic: value for money, demand and supply.
