Q

what to explain with sugars

A

AMOUNT
So if we look at your diet sheet, we can see that the diet contains quite a lot of sugar (e.g.).
Sometimes it’s really surprising how much sugar is in some foods, so look out for it being hidden in foods like …… it will always tell you on the packet how high the sugar content is, and look out for anything with more than 15g/100g, as this is classed as a high-sugar product.
Give advice based on the diet sheet – maybe sugar free alternative.

FREQUENCY
This sheet also suggests to me that you’re having sugar quite frequently. This means your teeth are under attack all the time and they don’t have much time to recover.
Ideally, it’s great to have 3 main meals and only 2 snacks or sugary drinks in between. So this makes a total of 5 sugar attacks per day, and if you’re brushing twice per day, it’s a really good way to help you stay decay-free.
Give advice based on diet sheet – Have your snacks with your meals. Sugar free alternatives if you do want a drink/snack, gum to occupy.

TIME
The other thing with regards to trying to stop the decay is that I can see you’re eating late at night. When you do this, you go to bed and the sugars just sit there letting the bacteria eat them and decay your teeth.
Give advice based on diet sheet – keep the hour before bed sugar free

Q

what to explain with acids

A

The other thing I mentioned was acid. Acid can be found in so many foods, like oranges, fizzy drinks, fruit juices. When it gets in contact with your teeth, it softens them, meaning that the top layer of your teeth can dissolve.
It goes away after about 40 minutes, but if you do it a lot, you might start to notice your teeth starting to get a bit shorter or flatter as they erode away.
Give advice based on diet sheet – drinking through a straw, rinsing with water, eating cheese or drinking milk
