What are the infective causes of diarrhoea?

A
  • Bacterial e.g campylobacter, shigella/salmonella, E.Coli – associated with bloody diarrhoea, fever, unwell
    C.Difficile causing pseudomembranous colitis – can lead to toxic megacolon
  • Viral e.g. rotavrius – watery diarrhoea, crampy abdominal pain and vomiting

What are the non-infective causes of diarrhoea?

A
  • Ischaemic colitis
  • IBD
  • Constipation with overflow diarrhoea
  • Acute appendicitis

A
  • Anxiety

- Drugs (PPI, laxatives, abx, NSAIDS)

A
