Define Accuracy
Trueness’ of what is being measured – compared to a control
Define Precision
Repetitive test of same sample produces identical or near-identical results
Define Interfering factors
Reasons for deviations or alteration of test outcomes including: improper handling/collection of the specimen, incorrect or incomplete patient prep, etc.;
Improper or inadequate patient prep to include diet, medication activity or position, pregnancy
Define Specificity
Ability of a test to correctly exclude patients who do NOT have a given condition or disease
Define Sensitivity
Ability of a test to correctly include patients who DO have a given condition or disease
Define true positive
Patient undergoing a clinical test who DOES have the disease or condition and tests positive
Define true negative
Patient undergoing a clinical test who does NOT have the disease or condition and tests negative
Define false positive
Patient undergoing a clinical test who does NOT have the disease or condition and tests positive
Define false negative
Patient undergoing a clinical test who DOES have the disease or condition and tests negative
Define positive predictive value
Percentage of positive tests with true positive results
Define negative predictive value
Percentage of negative tests with true negative results
