1
Q
Ideal Gas Equation
A
PV=nRT
Pressure = Pa (kPa --> Pa x10000 Volume = m3 (m3 --> cm3 x10^5) n = moles R = gas constant (8.31JK-1mol-1) Temperature = kelvin ( +273 )
2
Q
Molar volume
A
all gases take up the same volume at RTP (298K, 100kPa)
this volume is 24dm^3
3
Q
how do you work out the no. of moles of gas in a certain volume?
A
no. of moles = vol. (dm^3) / 24
4
Q
how would you work out no. of molecules of gas?
A
- find the no. of moles (vol. in dm^3 / 24)
2. x no. of moles by avogadro’s constant (6.02 x 10^23)
5
Q
Techniques and procedures to measure vol. of gases
A
use a gas syringe
- attach to opening of reaction vessel lets you measure how much gas is produced
- will show total vol. of gases
- can tell when a reaction has ended as no further change in gas vol.
