A disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and verbal and non-verbal communication, and by restricted, repetitive or stereotyped behavior.
Autism
One of the most common childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. Symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity (over-activity).

Elimination disorders are disorders that concern the elimination of feces or urine from the body.
Elimination Disorders
As hard feces build up in the large intestine, the bowel is stretched out of shape. This allows liquid feces behind the hard stool to involuntarily leak out and stain clothing.
Encopresis
Malformations of the urinary system, developmental delays, and hormonal imbalances that affect the ability to concentrate urine.
Enuresis
Refers to the study of the causation of diseases and disorders as a subject of investigation. It may also refer to the assignment of a cause, an origin or a reason for something.
Etiology
A psychological disorder diagnosed in childhood or adolescence that presents itself through a repetitive and persistent pattern of behavior in which the basic rights of others or major age-appropriate norms are violated.
Conduct Disorder
A generalized disorder appearing before adulthood, characterized by significantly impaired cognitive functioning and deficits in two or more adaptive behaviors.
Mental Retardation
Characterized by a distinctive set of physical characteristics. These physical characteristics need to be factored in program planning.
Down Syndrome
A general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying.
Anxiety
A medical illness that causes a constant feeling of sadness and lack of interest.
Depression
A chronic disorder characterized by excessive, long-lasting anxiety and worry about nonspecific life events, objects, and situations.
General Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
An irrational fear and avoidance of an object or situation.
Phobia
A type of anxiety characterized by brief or sudden attacks of intense terror and apprehension that leads to shaking, confusion, dizziness, nausea, and difficulty breathing.
