Gross domestic product (GDP)
The total VALUE of GOODS and SERVICES a country produces in a YEAR. It is measured in $US per year
GDP per capita
The GDP DIVIDED BY the total POPULATION so that it shows the average WEALTH PER PERSON. Measured in $ per year.
Gross national income (GNI) per capita
The total VALUE of GOODS and SERVICES produced by a country and companies working OVERSEAS. It gives the average wealth per person. $ per year per person
Poverty measure
The % of people in a country living below an internationally agreed minimum pay ($1.25/day)
Inequality measure
The gini coefficient measures how equally shared wealth is in a country. It shows inequality in a score between 0-100 (100 being unequal wealth)
Access to safe drinking water
% of pop with access to piped water supply within 1KM OF THEIR HOME
Literacy rate
% of pop over 15 who can read+write
Human development index
Score between 0-1 that includes countrys health, wealth and education. 1 is best
Corruption perception index
Level of government openness. Low score (0) = corrupt and good score (10) means honest / open country
Gender inequality index
Number that is calculated using data showing the status of women in society. It includes women’s access to education, jobs and political rights. The higher score the better
Population structure
Number or % of ppl in each age group and also % of male/female
Demographic data
All data linked to population changes: birth rate, death rate etc.
Birth rate
No lives births per 1000 ppl /year
Death rate
No deaths per 1000 ppl per year
Dependancy ratio
Proportion of people (0-14) and above (over 65) normal working age. It’s calculated by young + elderly / working age x 100
The lower the number, means less people are dependant - this is good
