Q

How will climate change affect erosion - deposition

A

Sea levels rising will make the waves bigger causing cliffs to erode faster

Q

Explain how groynes and sea walls work

A

Groynes stop erosion from happening as they trap sediment and sea walls stop the waves from eroding the coastlines and absorbs the impact of the waves

Q

Explain how beach replenishment and slope stabilisation works

A

Sand is put on the beach to build up the coastline and stop erosion using soft engineering and slope stabilisation puts pipes in the hills and let water run down so it doesn’t cause land slides

Q

Advantages and disadvantages of each management type

A

Groynes: stops the beach from erosion, but it will erode faster down the coast
Sea walls: they stop the coastline from eroding, but they are too expensive
Slope stabilisation: it keeps the cliff in place, but difficult to install snd closes beach for a long time
Beach nourishment: looks natural, but winter storms transport material away and needs to be looked after frequently

Q

Explain why ITC, schemes are a sustainable form of coastal management

A

Because they save money by letting some places erode, while saving other places that make more money to improve elsewhere and give more tax to the council.
