Determinsm / Free will Flashcards
What is deterministic?
Believes our behaviour is deterred for us and could be predictable as a result of
Biological / environmental and evolutionary factors
what is a strength of determinism?
More scientific and can be useful to provide evidence
What is a weakness of determinism?
Reductionist as it implies we can predict behaviour
What is free will?
Believes our behaviour is controlled by us and that we have a choice in how we act
What is a strength of free will?
Useful as it demonstrates we make conscious decisions
What is a weakness of free will?
Less scientific as can’t be used to predict behaviour
What is soft determinism?
Suggests we do have choices to make and can exercise free will but these choices are often determined by other factors
What is loftus and palmer?
deterministic as memory was affected by leading questions meaning situation was depending on it
What is grant?
deterministic as study showed their result was affected by environment
What is Bandura?
Deterministic as shows we learn through imitation
Free will as shows not all children behaved exactly the same in each condition
