Q

What are the RIBA Plan of Work Stages 2020?

A
  • Splits out key stages of a project from design to construction. There are 8
0 – Strategic Definition (Clients Requirements)
1 – Preparation and Briefing (budget, programme)
2 – Concept Design (Produce outline specs, planning, for review)
3 – Spatial Coordination (test concept with engineering analysis and cost exercises
4 – Technical Design (Complete final design, formalise statutory approval, and tender)
5 – Manufacturing and Construction (the build is completed and commissioned)
    6 - Hand Over
7 – Use (operated and maintained.

Q

Can you name different procurement routes?

A
  1. Traditional Procurement (Client engages the design team and contractor direct)
  2. Design and Build (Client engages the contractor who employs the designer)
  3. Management Contracting
  4. Construction Management

Q

When might you use design and build procurement?

A

Where project time frames are tight, as design and construction can run in conjunction. Design responsibility falls onto the contractor, expertise can utilised.
