Sessile vs Pendunculated
sessile: raised but mostly flat and attached
pendunculated: attached by thin stalk of tissue
Macule
-flat lesion
-different in color from surroundings
-usually less than 1cm
Patch
pigmented textured area larger than the size of a macule
Erosion
denudation of epithelium ABOVE basal cell layer
Ulcer
loss of epithelium extending BELOW the basal cell layer
-superficial <3mm
-deep >3mm
Fissure
a linear crack in top two layers of skin or mucosa
Papule
elevated solid lesion less than 1cm in diameter
Plaque
a flat raised area larger than 1cm in diameter
Nodule
raised solid mass that has depth and is up to 1cm in diameter
Wheal
a pinkish red edematous serum filled papule or plaque
Tumor
a solid raised benign or malignant mass that has depth and is larger than 1cm in diameter
Vesicle
fluid filled elevation less than 1cm in diameter
Pustule
a vesicle filled with purulent exudate

epithelial lined and fluid filled mass in the dermis, subcutaneous tissue, or jaw bone
