What should you describe when looking at the optic disc?

A
  • Colour picture
  • Left/right eye
  • Can you see the optic disc?
  • Is it a normal colour? (yellow-pink)
  • Can you see a normal-sized optic cup (<0.4 of disc)
  • Can you see the optic vein and artery?
  • Is the optic disc margin well defined?

What should you describe when looking at the eye as a whole?

A
  • Colour picture
  • Left or right eye
  • Eyelids (may be swollen)
  • Eyelashes (may be matted together)
  • Discharge?
  • Redness
  • Injected vessels
  • Corneal light reflect - symmetrical?
  • Pupils dilated/constricted/normal
  • Is iris normal in appearance/hazy/poorly defined?

Where do you see lesions in herpes zoster (shingles) around eye?

A

Vesicular lesions in area supplied by CNV1 (trigeminal - opthalmic division)

nasociliary branch supplies nose, this comes from opthalmic division of trigeminal nerve
