Describe three different red/pink birthmarks and how to differentiate them (6)

A

Salmon patch/Stork mark - Flat pink marks. Fade in the first few months, takes longer if it is on the forehead

Infantile haemangioma/strawberry marks - raised, intially rapidly increase in size in the first six months then reduce and disappear in childhood

Port wine stain - Capillary malformation, flat red/purple marks. Can deepen in colour over time and are sensitive to hormones.
