- Systemic corticosteroid
- Topical corticosteroid
- Oral antihistamine
Must give them something for a longer time because the antigen doesn’t go away
Atopic dermatitis
Aka eczema
Erythematous, eczematous patches antecubital and popliteal common for atopic dermatitis (flexor regions)

Atopic dermatitis
Eczema and asthma go hand in hand

Treatment
- Oral antihistamine (controls itch)
- Topical corticosteroid (use carefully, thins skin)
- Topical immune modulators (Elidel, Protopic)
- Moisturizing cleansers, emollients, humidifier
Dyshidrotic dermatitis
Description
Itching
Excoriated erythema with vesicles
Dyshidrotic dermatitis
Pathognomonic symptoms
Worse when warm or moist
More common in hands (esp. if they wear gloves/have sweaty hands)

- Topical corticosteroid
- Oral antihistamine
MUST rule out tinea and contact dermatitis
Nummular Dermatitis

Multiple round, dry itchy erythematous patches
No white scaling, no central clearing

- Topical corticosteroid
- Oral antihistamine
- Moisturizing cleansers, emollients, humidifier
Worse in the winter, must rule out tinea
Seborrheic dermatitis
Redness, flaking
Oily skin, dandruff
Erythematous with mild scaling, diffuse flaking to scalp

Over growth of yeast or fungus

Treatment
- SULFA based cleanser and/or anti dandruff shampoo
- Topical anti fungal (ketoconazole)
- Topical steroid (low potentcy)
Stasis dermatitis
Swelling, redness and itching to lower extremities
Multiple varicosities
Edema, Lichenified, eczematous
Varicose veins
Must rule out blood clot
** worsens after standing
Stasis dermatitis
Pathognomonic symptoms
Worse when standing
No infection
Things are static due to decreased blood flow
Seen in patients with HTN and heart failure

Treatment
- Topical steroids
- Oral antihistamine
- Compression socks
- Systemic corticosteroids – can increase sugars, watch steroids
- Oral antibiotics
- Venous ultrasound
Perioral dermatitis
Red bumps around mouth and nose
Multiple erythematous papules
No pustules, no honey colored crust
Perioral dermatitis
Pathognomonic symptoms
Around the nose
Can be caused by lip-glosses or toothpaste
Perioral dermatitis
Treatment
- Oral antibiotics (anti-inflammatory affect – cyclines)
- Topical antibiotics
DO NOT use corticosteroids bc they can make the problem worse with long term use
Contact dermatitis
Dermatitis due to contact with something such as nickel
Tagless clothing, jeans, earrings
Contact dermatitis treatment
- Prednisone dosing for peds and adults
