Depth Cues Flashcards
Depth perspective?
Ability to see 3 dimensional space and accurately judge distance ( drive car, bike walking etc )
What is depth cues?
Messages from external environment goes to the body about far away objects.
Two TYPES of depth cues?
- Binocular Cues
- Monocular Cues
Two types of BINOCULAR CUES?
- Retinal Disparity
- Convergence
What is BINOCULAR CUES?
REQUIRES both eyes. Info about depth and distance.
What is Retinal Disparity ?
Brain receives seperate images and overlaps them into an overall image creating a three dimensional sight.
What is Convergence?
Both eyes simultaneously turns towards a object and maintain focus.
Controlled my muscles in the eyes ( tense and relax to judge distance )
TWO TYPES of Monocular Cues ?
- Accommodation
- Pictorial cues
Accommodation meaning?
Ciliary muscles relax and contract to focus on an object from a distance.
Pictorial cues meaning?
Creates impression of depth on 2 dimensional surface which doesn’t have depth.
5 TYPES of Pictorial cues?
- Linear perspective
- Relative size
- Interposition
- Texture gradient
- Height ( visual field )
What is visual constancies?
Group of perception principles that allow us to view objects without changing features on it.
4 TYPES of visual constancies?
- Size constancy
- Shape constancy
- Brightness constancy
- Orientation constancy
What are Biological ( internal ) depth cues :
- Convergence
- Retinal Disparity
- Accommodation
Pictorial ( external ) depth cues?
Pictorial cues ( the 5 types )
