various inflammatory liver diseases, some of which are fatal. Hepatitis B vaccinations are an occupational health requirement for all clinical dental personnel
Herpes varicella
Chicken pox, usually occurs in childhood (but not always) and affects the area supplied by the trigeminal nerve (fifth cranial nerve) as well as the torso
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
Acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS), a blood borne + fatal viral infection which was initially only found in certain pt groups (intravenous drug users + homosexuals) but has now spread beyond them and can be found in the wider population
Herpes Zoster
shingles, a very painful blistering skin rash which can involves the area supplied by the trigeminal nerve (fifth cranial nerve) as well as the torso
Herpes simplex type 1
‘cold sores’ which are blister lesions occurring on the lips and are highly infectious in their initial stages if touched
Epstein-Barr
Glandular fever, a debilitating viral infection resulting in painful swollen lymph glands including those found in the neck
Paramyxovirus
Mumps, viral infection of the parotid salivary glands (either one or both) but seems not to affect any other salivary glands
Coxsackievirus
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease, common infection seen in young children, painful blistering in the oral cavity, on the plan of the hands and soles of the feet.
