What are they?
A
These are drugs used specifically against infections caused by a virus, but the only infection of dental relevance is the ‘cold sore’ produced on the lip after infection with the herpes simplex type 1 virus

What is used?
A
Aciclovir antiviral cream applied to the lesion several times a day may prevent the full development and blistering of the cold sore infection

What we can do
A
are highly infective while present, and the dental team must protect themselves by wearing full PPE during trt. Ideally, the pt should not be treated while a ‘cold sore’ is present, unless they require emergency trt.
