DEMOGRAPHY-IMPACT OF MIGRATION ON MIGRANTS THEMSELVES Flashcards
How has feminisation of migration impacted migrants?
- Feminists note that recent years there is a surge in female migration
- In the past economic migrants were mainly male but now the split is 50/50
- Women who migrate to the uk do job roles which are feminine such as nannies, cleaners etc.
- Migrants fill lower paid jobs which British women themselves are not prepared to do
- Darkside of feminised migration is that with women being more vulnerable than men more likely to be trafficked by people smuggling gangs into illegal trades such as prostitution
evaluation of feminisation of migration
female migrants are vulnerable to exploitation and abused and may find they aren’t in a better position after relocating
