A

-Migration contributes more to the population growth than natural changes (birth and death rates).66 million in UK.This is a 10 million increase in people over the past 50 years,56% of population growth since 1991 has been due to net migration.More people have entered the country than left.Migrant women are more likely than British women to have more children, which further contributes towards population growth

Migrants are typically very young(working age) and most migrants move to the uk for economic purposes.But migrants tend to have larger families with women having more babies.However it is common for people who have migrated to the uk for work purposes to return to their country of origin meaning they don’t retire in the uk

How has migration effected cultural diversity on families

A

-Migration can impact cultural diversity in two different ways:
1)shallow diversity:superficial differences which immigration can bring to the uk.
EG-types of fashion, music and food.Tikka masala curry is regarded as a classic British dish
2)deep diversity:more significant differences in terms of norms and values between British born population and migrant groups
EG-religious values
Deep diversity is less likely to be embraced by British born population
BERTHOUD:

-It has brought number of social and structural differences across individual families
EG-asian women more likely to marry younger and have larger families and live in extended units
-singleparenthood is much more common in black communities,single mothers making up half of families in this community
