Describe the cause of dementia
family history, APOE gene, amyloid precursor protein, prensilin 1 and 2
Patho of lewy body dementia
Abnormal deposits of protein called alpha-synuclein in the brain. Deposits are called Lewy bodies affect chemicals in the brain whose changes in turn can lead to problems with thinking, movement, behaviours, and mood. Acetylcholine deficiency in temporal and parietal cortex which causes hallucinations. Dopamine deficiencies- hard to coordinate hand movements.
Delusions- hypoperfusion of frontal cortex.
what causes vascular dementia ?
reduced blood flow to the brain
