Democracy
A system of government in which people choose their rulers by voting for them in elections
Dictatorship
A form of government in which a person/a small group rules with almost unlimited power. The ruler of a dictatorship is called a dictator
Communism
A theory/system of social organisation in which all property is owned by the community and each person contributes and receives according to their ability and needs
Fűhrer
A German word meaning leader/guide. As a political title it is associated with the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler
Propaganda
Information especially of a biased, or misleading nature that promotes a political cause or point of view
Diktat
Dictated treaty. Forced treaty in which Germany was invited but did not have a say
Dictator
A ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained control by force
Aryanism
An ideology of racial supremacy
Anti-semitism
Means prejudice against/hatred of Jews
Scapegoat
A person/people/group who are blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes/faults of others

Step down from your role (hierarchy)
Inflation
Term used to describe an increase in the cost of goods in an economy (typical rate between 2% - 6%)
Hyperinflation
Term used to describe levels of inflation that are very high
Coup d’etat
Also called coup - the sudden, violent overthrow of an existing government by a small group

Nationalism
Nationalism is an ideology that emphasises loyalty devotion or allegiance to a nation (country). The country’s interests outweigh other individual or group interests
Genocide
The deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political or cultural group. It is an extreme form of violence and hate where the goal is to eliminate a particular group of people entirely
Holocaust
The systematic state-sponsored murder of millions of Jews and others by the Nazis and their collaborators during World War 2
Holocaust - Ghettos
A temporary measure to control and segregate Jews

A poor urban area occupied primarily by a minority group or groups

System of institutionalised racial segregation that existed in South Africa, which had total control of individual beings & communities through the law. Person’s fate was determined by the colour of skin (whites had the power and control)

An official declaration by the government usually following a natural disaster/civil unrest that allows the police force and army extra powers
Curfew
A restriction on the times that people may be outside their own house. Curfews usually operate at night
