decon Flashcards
describe gross decon using ladder trucks
two ladders shall setup their ladders fully extended with a two degree elevation off the rear of the apparatus
a power cone of 30 degrees from the fog nozzle shall be used
the shower created should be a minimum of 8 ft above the ground allowing 4-5 victims to decon at the same time.
how long should victims rinse in the decon area and what should they focus on.
the victims should rinse for at least 5 minutes and should pay attention to exposed surfaces such as head, shoulders, hands, and feet.
during equipment decon, how should each piece of equipment be cleaned?
initial gross rinse should be provided by use of a handline (1 3/4”, booster etc). minimize run off by using plastic to form a catch basin. each piece of equipment should be washed and rinsed 2 times with mild soap and water.
who puts in a request for the decon trailer?
the incident commander shall request through the OEC the decon trailer.
who shall be notified of any request for the decon trailer?
The HMRT and the Houston Medical Strike Team.
who determines if further decontamination efforts should be conducted?
HMRT along with EMS shall determine if further decon efforts are required.
during routine responder decontamination, how many times should outer garments be washed and rinsed?
the wash and rinse should be conducted 2 times. outer garments or protective clothing should be removed from the top dow. if a scba is in place, the face mask should be the last item removed.
define casualty collection point
an area adjacent to the decontamination area where persons who have been decontaminated shall be assembled for the purpose of medical evaluation prior to triage, treatment, and transport.
define formal decon
a technical and precise process designed to reduce contaminants and address the medical needs of victims and responders. this process is to be carried out under the direction of HMRT and the Houston medical strike team.
define gross decon
the initial phase of the decontaminant process during which the amount of surface contaminant is significantly reduced.
define routine victim decon
an initial decontamination process intended to be utilized for victims who were not wearing protective clothing.
define routine responder decon
an initial decontamination process intended to be utilized for persons who may become contaminated while wearing protective clothing.
what steps should be taken when a large number of victims need to be decontaminated?
approach the incident from an upwind/uphill direction, if possible
locate suitable area for gross decon
gain control of the masses by utilizing the p a
secure adequate water supply
what is a gross decon option when there are 10 or less victims
for 10 victims or less two 1-3/4” hand lines may be used instead of master streams.
describe the process for routine responder decon
initial gross rinse using 1-3/4” handline.
outer garments or protective clothing washed, with long handled soft bristled brushes, followed by a clear water rinse. wash and rinse should be conducted two times.
outer garments or protective clothing should then be removed
a thorough wash and rinse of the hands and face should then be conducted
